Orbit Communication Systems Wins $9.1M Israeli Contract (Image Credit: Payload)
Israeli satcom firm Orbit Communication Systems won a $9.1M contract to build an undisclosed number of multi-purpose satellite communications terminals (MPTs) for the Israeli Ministry of Defense next year, the company announced yesterday.
Fun sized: Orbit’s MPTs have demonstrated their ability to deliver broadband connectivity in the most difficult terrains.
Their compact size—with models as small as 12 to 18 inches tall—make them compatible with a wide variety of mobile and stationary platforms. Their low size, weight, and power (SWaP) design gives them the ability to transmit and receive vast amounts of data quickly, with speeds up to 126 Mbps for downloads and 29 Mbps for uploads.
These two features make Orbit a prime partner for defense customers looking to boost their ISR capabilities.
Dual use: This contract represents an ever-deepening relationship between the company and allied defense organizations. In January, the company announced three contracts valued at $36.7M total with the US Air Force, Israeli Ministry of Defense, and an undisclosed European defense customer.
However, Orbit isn’t solely focused on military applications. The company has also worked closely with Viasat to collaborate on next-gen SATCOM terminals for airborne applications. In May, the two companies cooperated to provide uninterrupted connectivity for the business aviation sector.
