Satellite manufacturer Terran Orbital to bring 2,000 jobs to Space Coast

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced satellite manufacturing company Terran Orbital is bringing a massive, end-to-end production facility to the Space Coast that will create 2,000 jobs.

“This will be the largest satellite manufacturing facility in the entire world,” DeSantis said at a press conference from the Space Florida headquarters in Merritt Island on Monday.

DeSantis said it will mean a $300 million boost to the Space Coast economy, with wages projected to average $84,000 a year by the fourth quarter of 2025.

The commercial spacecraft and constellation facility will be located at Space Florida’s Launch and Landing Facility, the former landing site for the Space Shuttle program adjacent to Kennedy Space Center.

“This area has witnessed a great comeback over the last three years, which in no small part is due to the character, spirit and resilience of this community,” said Space Florida CEO Frank DiBello. “To do the things that are necessary to move with the times, address challenges and create new opportunities for our citizens.”

Terran Orbital CEO Mark Bell said the facility will be able to produce 1,000 satellites, mostly small cube sats, a year. The company’s U.S. headquarters are based in Boca Raton, but has global operations.

“For us Space Florida is the perfect place to tell the world who we are,” Bell said.
