OneWeb and Uzbekspace Partner to Enable Digitalization of Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan’s governmental agency Uzbekspace announces the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with OneWeb to explore new solutions for digital connectivity and innovation across the Republic of Uzbekistan.

TASHKENT., Uzbekistan (OneWeb PR) — OneWeb, the low Earth orbit satellite communications company, and Uzbekspace, the Agency of Space Research and Technology under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the provision of ubiquitous high-speed, low-latency broadband satellite connectivity across the Republic of Uzbekistan in order to boost innovation and digitalization of its economy and society.

The MoU paves a path for close collaboration between OneWeb and Uzbekspace in relation to market access, potential distribution of OneWeb’s satellite capacity in the country, and coordination with other state agencies, public and private sector enterprises.

Shukhrat Kadirov, Acting Director General of Uzbekspace said: “The signing of the MoU with OneWeb is a significant event in the development of space communications in Uzbekistan, and the availability of OneWeb telecommunications services in the Republic would allow effective implementation of the tasks provided for by the state programs for the development of information technologies and ensure the availability of innovative communication services even in remote regions of the country”.

Ivan Zaitsev, Market Access Director at OneWeb, commented: “We are happy to play a role in the process of enabling the digitalization of Uzbekistan by bringing in our high-throughput, low latency connectivity over low Earth orbiting satellites, including opportunities in e-government services, mining and green energy projects in even the most remote settlements of the country. Our network, operations and customer support systems, products and user terminals are created for the local network operators who are most knowledgeable and remain in control, but with their end-customers in mind, with an opportunity to use various ‘last mile’ solutions, including LTE and 5G, now to be delivered anywhere. The MoU is a result of a series of working meetings concerning the deployment of OneWeb’s low-earth orbit satellite broadband system for the benefit of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and was signed on the side of the inaugural Central Eurasian Space Technology Conference “STC 2022” hosted by Uzbekspace, supported and attended by the Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Space and Telecommunications Agencies from the region, including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Monaco, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and UAE.
